Resident Associations:
Usually form as a constituted group
May be exclusivley Muir Group residents whose aims are to represent the views of
all Muir Group residents within a particular scheme or area.
Or a group of residents from all sectors of the community whose aims are to represent
their whole community.
Membership is usually open to all residents in each defined area
Formal recognition is given to groups that demonstrate they are democratic and
are working in the interests of all residents.
Residents from any scheme, estate or local community can form a Residents Association
Community Groups:
Are Independent and formally constituted groups that operate for the benefit
of everyone living within a local community
They form to have a say about what is happening in their communities and to discuss
local issues
Membership can have a wider range, including; residents, local organisations, housing
associations, local authority departments, local councillors, the police, or anyone
who can assist with the objectives of the group
Social Groups:
Do not need to be formally constituted
They may be formed as part of a residents association or ran separately
They usually operate to provide social activities for residents within a scheme
or local area.
Resident Associations and Community Groups are an effective way to get involved
in how local services are provided or for taking action to improve local environment.
