Benefits you may be entitled to receive

ABOUT £15 billion in benefits that are available to members of the public go unclaimed each year, many because people don't realise they are entitled to them.

But Muir can help you to identify the benefits you can apply for successfully, based on your individual circumstances, as per our video below.

Our Money Advisors can to ‘Benefit Health Checks’ to see what you could be entitled to and make sure you receive it.

You may have had a change in circumstances, or find yourself struggling in an area where help is available.

However, if you don’t know what benefits are out there, it is difficult to get the financial assistance you need to lift the pressure.

Muir Money Advisor, Gordon Low said: “There are lots of benefits out there that people might be entitled to, they just don’t know about them.

“Residents can call and speak to us confidentially and we can run a benefit check to see what they can apply for which they don’t already receive.

“This is a free service we offer and we want to highlight it as part of Financial Capability Week so people have a better chance of managing their money successfully.”

Important changes to the Benefit Cap also came into effect on November 7th, 2016, limiting the maximum amount of benefit that any household can receive.

Previously set at £500 for two parent families and single parents, and 350 for single person households, these amounts have been reduced, meaning recipients may now have a tougher time managing their money.

For two parent and single parent families the Benefit Cap means the money they receive has fallen to a maximum of £385 per week, while for single person households, benefits have reduced to £258 each week.

(For people living in London, two parent and single parent families now receive a maximum of £442, while single person households get £296 as a result of the changes).
