Direct Debit payments giving more Muir residents peace of mind

MORE and more Muir residents are choosing to pay their rent by Direct Debit as the housing association confirmed customer arrears have fallen to their lowest levels.

The option to pay rent by Direct Debit has given many Muir residents the peace of mind they need, helping them to budget their money and ensure their payments remain up to date.

Changing payments to direct debit has also never been easier, with Muir’s customer service team delivering a paperless service which means residents can get themselves set up over the phone in less than five minutes.

Muir Group Housing Association’s Customer Services Team Leader, Andrew Warren (pictured) said: “We have seen growing numbers of Muir residents opting to pay their rent by Direct Debit since the option was introduced.

“It has given them peace of mind as Direct Debit offers indemnity protection and cuts down on the number of calls residents need to make to us.

“As long as the money is in the bank then their rent will reach us without any effort from themselves.

“Providing they have a bank account we can set up a Direct Debit payment for resident during a one-off conversation over the phone in less than five minutes, meaning they don’t have to worry about calling to make payments month after month.”

Reduced numbers of evictions (down by 54% in 2015-16 compared with 2014-15) and low levels of arrears show how Direct Debit is helping people budget their money and ensure their rent is paid on time.

“Direct Debit payments have been a big win for many Muir residents as they can often prove to be the most effective way to pay,” Andrew added.

“The payment leaves a resident’s bank account automatically on an agreed date every month.

“The low levels of evictions and arrears show the overall benefit of introducing Direct Debit to our residents,” he said.
