Muir housing placement 'a pleasure' for university student

A UNIVERSITY student is reaping the rewards of spending time with residents as she trains to become a mental health nurse.

Grace Rogers, 22, who is in the third year of her studies at the University of Chester, is enjoying a placement with Muir Group Housing Association at one of its supported living schemes.

Cornwall House provides support to people recovering from mental health problems and Grace has been working alongside dedicated Muir staff helping residents to overcome their difficulties.

Georgina Millington, Project Manager at Cornwall House in Chester said: “We are lucky to work on the scheme because we really see our residents blossom.

“When they come to us they are very poorly but we get to see them change so much which is very rewarding.

“It means a lot to us and it is a pleasure to work here, I absolutely love it.”

Georgina (pictured, right) has worked on the scheme for almost six years and praised Grace for the contribution she has been making during her four-week placement.

“She has been brilliant, a real spark of enthusiasm,” she said.

“Grace is able to spend time with the residents and we are very pleased with the way her placement is going.

“We were approached to see if we would like to provide a placement and it is something we would like to continue with in the future.”

Grace Rogers and Georgina MillingtonCornwall House provides supported living for up to eight residents, all of whom have enduring mental health problems.

Grace (pictured, left) said: “Being here has inspired me to keep going. The placement is really valuable.

“The people here are quite poorly but it is good to see them living in this community and interesting to see the work done.

“I am loving my time here and it is nice to think you are making a difference.”

Caris Williams, a project officer at the Muir scheme, has devoted the last ten years of her life to improving the lives of others at Cornwall House.

She added: “It is a very rewarding role to have.

“We do lots to help the residents including charity work, and we enjoy celebrating their success.”

Each resident has an individual support plan tailored to their own needs, focusing on their unique goals, aspirations and interests.

Cornwall House is one of several supported living schemes Muir provides throughout the country.
