Residents raise £500 at Queen's birthday Bingo bash

A BINGO fundraising event to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday has raised £500 for charity.

It was eyes down for residents at Muir’s Ellwood House scheme in Hough, Cheshire, when they turned their monthly Bingo night into a joint birthday bash for Her Majesty.

And their Bingo nights have become the talk of the town after they began calling out the numbers just before Christmas and donating the money they make to various good causes after each one.

She said: “Since we started running the Bingo it has become very popular with residents and we have managed to raise quite a lot of money for different charities.

“We are absolutely packed out each month which is amazing, and residents from other areas join us too.

“On the Queen’s birthday, Hough and Chorlton Parish Council provided a special birthday cake, a birthday card and a glass of Prosecco for all of us.

“We also had special pens made sop residents would have a keepsake of the Queen’s 90th birthday.

“Everyone loved it and it was fantastic to raise so much money.”

The money raise on this occasion is being shared between the NSPCC and the local village hall, while the July event will see funds raised for Help for Heroes.

Residents are helped in their fundraising bid by nearby businesses who regularly donate prizes and would like to thank them all including Lindon, their main sponsor at the local Spar shop.

Samantha Walton, a Tenancy Services Officer at Muir Group Housing Association added: “It was wonderful it was to see residents enjoying the day and brilliant that they have been raising money through organising their own Bingo nights.”
