Staff don denim in support of dementia

STAFF at Muir raised more than £80 when they donned denim for a day to support Dementia Awareness Week.

Some of the employees at the Muir head office in Chester also became Dementia Friends after the housing association pledged its support to raising awareness of the condition.

And their colleagues also got in on their act by wearing jeans and dressing down for work on May 20th, each donating to the Alzheimer’s Society as part of their Denim for Dementia event.

Supported Housing Officer, Emma Davies, who organised the events including the educational awareness session said: “I was really pleased some of my Muir Colleagues decided to become Dementia Friends during Dementia Awareness Week.” (May 15th – 21st)

“It’s a fantastic initiative where people gain more understanding of what it’s like living with Dementia through some key messages and then we ask them put the understanding into action.

“Some of the team were already Dementia Friends and it’s great to have more of board.

“We also had a really good response to the Denim for Dementia event and we raised just over £80 which will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society to support the fantastic work they do.

“A big thank you to everyone for their generous donations.”

Dementia Awareness Week is about encouraging anyone who is worried about dementia to confront their concerns and get in touch with Alzheimer's Society or speak to their doctor.

Hundreds of thousands of families are touched by dementia every year and many people don't know where to turn. Dementia can be scary but you don’t have to face it alone.

If you're worried that you, or someone close to you, might have dementia, call the National Dementia Helpline on 0300 222 1122 or email helpline@alzheimers.org.uk for advice and support.
