Children receive £1,000 to create artwork
SCHOOLCHILDREN have received a £1,000 grant to create artwork at a new housing development.
Pupils at Boundary Primary School in Grange Park, Blackpool, created a video about why they wanted to create the piece of art at the entrance to the new estate being built close to their school.
It was submitted to Friends Of Muir Group, the charity arm of Muir Group Housing Association which is behind the £2.8million development.
“The children’s video was a very unique way of submitting a bid and they all showed such passion and enthusiasm for the project that we just couldn’t say no,” said Les Patterson, Chairman of FOMG.
“I know they will use the same creativity they showed in making their bid to help to create an inspiring piece of art that will stand the test of time.”
The children have already been generating ideas for the project and have visited the site of the development as well as met the architects, Croft Goode, builders, R P Tysons and Muir Group Housing Association.
They are hoping to create a glass mosaic which will be built into a wall at the development of 26 two and three-bed properties on land between Gateside Drive and Forshaw Avenue.
The children involved in the project are known as Eco Warriors at the school which means they are responsible for environmentally friendly activities and so want to create the artwork out of sustainable materials such as glass.
“Our children are so pleased to have received this money and cannot wait to start seeing their ideas come to life,” said Sue Hawkey, from Boundary Primary School.
