Residents put Ramsey Back on Track with Party in the Park

HUNTINGDONSHIRE residents are coming together to encourage people to be more actively involved in community life, revive neighbourhood spirit and discourage anti-social behaviour with a community party.

Residents’ group Ramsey Back on Track is holding its second ‘Party in the Park’ at King George Field, at Ramsey, on Saturday, July 25, 12pm until late.

Following the success of last year’s event, which about 400 people attended, organisers say this year they look forward to double this number as the party will be even bigger and better.

The event has already received huge support from local organisations, including the Muir Group Housing Association, which, through the Muir Group’s registered charity Friends of Muir, has given Ramsey Back on Track a £1000 grant to help fund the event.

This is Muir’s second year for supporting the event, after donating a park bench last year, which is in use at St Georges Field - an area where the Ramsey Back on Track group would especially like to see more improvements, with new play equipment, lighting and seating areas.

Ramsey Back on Track treasurer Pat Payne said: “This year we have pulled out all the stops to make sure Party in the Park is an event to remember and in which all the family can become involved.

“One of our main aims as a residents’ group is to provide better facilities and activities for children. By holding this event we are inviting them to come along, be part of the community and feel a sense of pride in the area.”

The day will include events for all ages, as well as traditional games such as tug of war and sponge throwing, there will be free food for children with cakes made by WI members, a children’s clown, horse and foal, Wigwam building, vintage cars, a jam van for electronics fans, a car boot sale and a real Dustcart. Huntingdonshire Police will also be giving visitors the chance to step into a car simulator to encourage people to think responsibly and avoid drink driving. In the evening there will also be a live band and disco.

Community engagement officer for Muir Group Jan Kaneen said: “Muir Group fully supports the efforts and dedication of the Ramsey Back on Track group.

“We currently have two residents on the group’s committee. The funding for the Party in the Park shows that Muir is more than just a social landlord building houses, it also helps build communities.”

Ramsey Back on Track meets regularly to continue its work towards improving the quality of life for the community and welcomes new members. For more information contact Back on Track on 07717644434.
