Local children pitch in for Easter litter pick
Dozens of local children are expected to join in today’s community clean up initiative at Longbarn near Warrington.
The children will be making good use of their school holidays this year as they join in the litter pick on the estate, organised by the Longbarn Resident’s Community Association and Muir Group, the not-for-profit housing association that manages the estate.
The event has grown out of a local community partnership, with Warrington Borough Council providing high visibility jackets, litter pickers and bin bags, as well as a staff member to explain the importance of litter picking and recycling to the children. The local councillors will help out at the litter pick, along with local police and Muir staff.
Muir Group’s Community Engagement Officer, Beverley Price, said:
“It’s great to see the children taking pride in where they live, and being so enthusiastic about improving the local environment. We are hoping this litter pick is just the first of more initiatives between Muir and the Longbarn residents. When we work in partnership together we can build a great community spirit for us all.”
Friends of Muir Group, the charitable subsidiary of the housing association Muir Group, has provided funding towards prizes for the children who are taking part. Muir Group’s landscaping contractors ‘Shades of Green’ will dispose of rubbish collected during the litter pick.
