Residents take a walk on the wild side
WINSFORD residents took a walk on the wild side when they enjoyed a special day out at Chester Zoo thanks to funding from three community groups.
More than 65 people from the Glebe Green estate went on the trip organised by Harmony Community Group, which promotes community spirit and initiatives to encourage people to interact in and around the estate, and Muir Group Housing Association on Monday, August 10.
The trip was organised after residents told the Harmony Group earlier in the year they wanted a day trip in the summer holidays to look forward to.
Thanks to funding from Muir Group’s registered charity Friends of Muir and Vale Royal Voluntary Sector Forum, as well as a contribution from Harmony Community Group, residents were given a discounted trip to the Zoo.
Chair of Harmony Lisa Hill and group member Kelly Furmedge, who are both Glebe Green residents, worked with Muir Group to organise the trip for residents.
Lisa explained: “This trip enabled families to enjoy a day out together without the worry of how it would be funded, and spend quality time away from their usual environment.
“There aren’t many community days out so this gave adults and children something to look forward to in the summer holidays.”
Residents were treated to a healthy lunch, as part of an initiative to promote healthy living on the estate, and children were given a small gift.
Community housing officer for Muir Group Sam Hopper said: “There was a great response from residents wanting to come on the trip, and it gave people an opportunity to mix with other residents.
“It was a really fun action packed day out and everybody enjoyed it. It was a special treat for the residents because it is something they wouldn’t necessarily organise themselves.”
