Free courses for adults to combat worklessness
WINSFORD residents are being given a helping hand to access job opportunities thanks to a series of adult learning classes being run by a Cheshire housing association and Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Free computer and job skills workshops are being run for residents on the Glebe Green estate at Winsford in a bid to combat worklessness amongst adults on the estate.
Muir Group Housing Association is working in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester West to offer courses being run from Muir Group’s office at Vauxhall Way.
Residents can sign up to go on a four-week basic computer skill course, which will give people the chance to log on to job websites and access housing information online, whilst improving skills to improve employment opportunities.
Jobs skills workshops will also be running, which will equip residents with skills such as CV writing, filling out job applications and letter writing.
Muir Group’s income management officer Leon Marsh said: “Our aim is, in partnership with the Council, to tackle worklessness on the Glebe estate by increasing residents’ ability to access employment.
“These courses will boost residents’ skills, which will give them more chance of finding job opportunities and being successful when they get to interview.”
Community learning coordinator for Cheshire West and Chester Council, Alison Reid, said: “These courses will allow people to increase their confidence by learning new skills, and gaining tips about job applications and CV writing.
“If people are more confident in the skills they have it will be apparent to prospective employers at interview – they will be able to present themselves in the best way.”
Learners will also have the opportunity to progress to maths and English courses with the opportunity of gaining qualifications up to Level 2.
Later in the year there will be a two-week Christmas card making course in December, also run from the Glebe Green office.
