A GROUP of residents from a Northwich housing scheme put on their shooting boots as they took on Muir Group Housing staff in a special six-a-side football match.
A team of residents from Victoria House, which is a scheme run by Muir Group Housing to provide supported temporary accommodation to vulnerable homeless adults in West Cheshire, played Muir Group FC at the housing group’s Chester head office on Tuesday, October 27.
The challenge of a friendly game was laid down to Muir Group FC by a team of football fanatics at Victoria House following their success in a football competition held at the Northgate Arena, in Chester, for drugs awareness week earlier this year.
Kate McInerney, Scheme manager at Victoria House, said: “After our victory in the tournament at the Northgate arena we thought it would be a good idea to challenge staff at Muir Group to a football match!”
Despite a bold effort from Victoria House, who led 2-1 at one stage, Muir Group FC came out on top winning 5-2 at the final whistle.
Mark Gould, technical manager for Muir Group Housing, and captain of Muir Group FC, said: “We were delighted to take up the challenge from Victoria House as the game was a great opportunity for the residents there and our staff to meet each other in a social way and hopefully have some fun as well.
“Having a good relationship between Muir Group staff and the residents living in our housing schemes is really important and I hope events like this really help to show how committed we all are to making residents lives better. If this game is a big success I’d like to perhaps arrange a tournament involving as many of our schemes as possible next year.”
