Time to Play
Muir Group Housing Association, Harmony Community Group and Groundwork Cheshire are pleased to announce that the Glebe Green Play Area will be officially opened by the Mayor of Vale Royal and children from the estate on Friday 11th April at 3.30pm.
At the celebratory event, there will be a prize draw to decide which child from the estate will officially open the play area along with the Mayor. Magicians and face painters will also be on hand to help celebrate the day.
The completion of the £103,000 play area project follows on from the success of the £65,000 multi-use games area (MUGA) that was opened in May 2007. The MUGA proved to be a very popular facility, and we are confident that the play area will be too. Within the first few hours of the play area being open, 60 children were counted playing in their new hang-out.
Work on the play area began last November. It has been designed using the ideas of local young people, and will offer toddler and junior aged children a safe place to play, relax and allow their imaginations to grow.
Funding for the project came from Vale Royal Borough Council’s Big Lottery Children’s Play initiative (£53,600), Waste Recycling Group Limited, administered by WREN (£20,100), The Trusthouse Charitable Foundation (£10,000), Muir Group Housing Association Ltd (£17,000) and Groundwork Cheshire (£2000).
A celebratory event is to be held on Friday 11th April at 3.30pm, where there will be a prize draw to decide which child from the estate will officially open the play area along with the Mayor. Magicians and face painters will also be on hand to help celebrate the day.
Katherine Stanier, (Project Manager, Groundwork) said:
“The partnership has worked hard to complete this two-phase project on the Glebe Green estate, and it is great to see how well both facilities are being used. We are hopeful that the successes of this project can be taken forward into new neighbourhood work – this project shows what a difference residents can make if they are given a voice in their community.”
David Hull, (Muir Group Regional Manager) said:
“This exciting and imaginative new play area gives the younger children of Glebe Green the same opportunities for safe and educational play that their older siblings already enjoy. Judging by the number of children who’ve flocked to it in the week since it opened, it’s going to become a focal point of the estate. The improvements to Glebe Green are a tribute to the efforts of the local community group Harmony and we at Muir are delighted to have helped bring this play area to the estate.”
Richard Smith, (Project Manager for WREN) said:
"We are really pleased that we have been able to make a further sizable contribution to these facilities. Phase 1 has been a tremendous success and we hope that these works will build on the MUGA to ensure that young people of all ages have an area where they can take part in engaging play in a safe environment."
Spokesperson from VRBC Play Forum, (individuals cannot be named at this time of elections) said:
“The Vale Royal Play Forum identified Glebe Green as one of five priority areas for play and secured the Big Lottery funding through the Children's Play Initiative. Play is essential to a child's physical and social development. The Vale Royal Play Strategy and the National Children's Plan recognises the need for good quality, local play space and we are very pleased to the see the community of Glebe Green benefit from the provision of this play area.”
