Housing associations unite on anti-social behaviour
Two housing associations from across Blackpool are working together to help stamp out anti-social behaviour in the town.
Muir Group Housing Association, which has more than 320 properties across the town, has been working with employees at Blackpool Coastal Housing, which manages Blackpool Council’s 5,500 properties, to find ways to tackle the problem.
Anti-social behaviour specialists from Muir Group have met with around 15 employees from Blackpool Costal Housing, to discuss how Registered Social Landlords (RSL) tackle the problem differently to Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOS).
RSLs, such as Muir Group, own and manage their own housing stock, whilst ALMOS, such as Blackpool Coastal Housing, create a board made up of tenants, councillors and independent members to manage properties on behalf of the council.
The talks, at Palatine College, Blackpool, were part of a course for Blackpool Coastal Housing employees studying for their NVQ Level Three in Housing Studies.
Jenny McCracken, Community Housing Officer and Anti-Social Behaviour Champion for Muir Group, led the talks.
She said: “The aim was to share good practice and learn from each other.
“We talked about how working in partnership with other organisations is vital in tackling anti-social behaviour.
“We also discussed ways that we are working with our residents to identify problems, and create joint solutions.”
