Housing association sets dates to make a difference

A HOUSING association has helped fund a calendar aimed at increasing community spirit all year round.

Muir Group Housing hopes the messages the calendar brings – which have been delivered to every home on Grange Park in Blackpool – will make a difference and bring some comfort to anyone who might be feeling lonely.

The calendar carries photographs of local faces, events, recipes, useful phone numbers and support groups, as well as advice about how to live a healthy lifestyle including spiritual, mental and physical health.

“It is great for the community because they know the calendar was made by them, for them,” said Barbara Stephenson, of Muir Group Housing.

Muir Group Housing joined forces with Blackpool Methodist Church’s Open Door Project to fund and co-ordinate the making of the calendar. Other partners involved included Blackpool Primary Care Trust and Reassurance Plus.

The calendar provides tips on how to exercise with photographs of Argosy Court’s new therapeutic playground. It also gives advice on how to have a happy relationship accompanied by a picture of Teresa and Ian Kennedy celebrating their 47 years of marriage.

“The calendar covers all aspects of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and we hope it will give people information about what is on offer in the community,” said Barbara Stephenson.

“It was important for us to support the calendar because we believe in creating sustainable communities in which people really want to live. We work closely with many partner agencies on Grange Park and the wider Blackpool area in order to maximise support and services to our residents.”
