Children in Winsford get ‘arty’
CHILDREN in one of the poorest parts of Cheshire are being given the chance to become a DJ or street dancer.
Workshops – run by Muir Group Housing and Groundwork Cheshire – have been set up to give young people in the Glebe Green area of Winsford a chance they might otherwise not have enjoyed.
“We hope the art workshops will open the young people’s eyes to different opportunities and give them a new experience,” said Beverley Price, community engagement officer for Muir Group Housing.
“We have come up with ideas that will encourage the young people to be more active and sociable as well as energetic and creative.”
The art projects include everything from learning how to DJ, to street dancing, face painting and origami. There will also be the opportunity to learn circus and willow weaving skills at the workshops which will run until March, with a choice of 10 for the young people to take part in.
Each of the workshops – which have been funded by Children In Need – lasts around two hours and is aimed at eight to 15 year olds.
They are being held at the Community House in Glebe Green and at Darnhall Primary School.
“Working in partnership with Muir Group Housing and local community group 2Getha, we can make a real difference to the lives of people living in the Glebe Green area,” said project assistant Craig Morris, of Groundwork Cheshire.
Over the next three months street dancing, drama, pottery making and DJ workshops will be on offer to the children who live in Glebe Green.
To take part in any of these free workshops – registration forms can be collected from the Muir Group estate office on Vauxhall Way, Glebe Green.
