Sunday Times puts Muir on top
MUIR Group Housing has been recognised amongst the country’s business elite after featuring in the prestigious list of the nation’s best employers.
The Chester-based housing association has featured in The Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies 2010 – making it one of the few housing organisations in the UK to be highlighted.
Muir’s position in the small companies list comes just weeks after the association was awarded two-star ‘outstanding’ status in a survey by Best Companies.
John Bellis, chief executive of Muir Group Housing, said: “To be recognised as one of the UK’s leading organisations is huge testament to everyone involved with Muir Group Housing.
“As a not-for-profit organisation our aim isn’t to make money, but to provide quality, affordable housing, create and build communities, and improve the lives of our residents – and to be recognised for this is a big honour.”
With more than 170 staff and 4,700 properties nationwide, from Hambleton in North Yorkshire to Wokingham in Berkshire, Muir Group Housing’s operation spans the length of the country.
In a strict and thorough examination of the association, employees were asked for their views on a wide range of issues including how they felt about their chief executive and senior managers, how they felt about stress, pressure and balance between their work and home duties.
Staff were also asked how challenged they were by their job and to judge how well Muir Group Housing puts back into society and the local community and, on this list, the association finished 25th.
Jonathan Austin, Founder and CEO of Best Companies Ltd which compiles the list, told entrants it was harder to make it into the small companies top 100 because there were a record 571 competing for the places.
Commenting on Muir Group Housing’s overall 85th position on the list, John Bellis added: “This is by far Britain’s largest survey of workplace opinion, satisfaction and, most importantly, engagement.
“We recognise that our staff are an integral part of our success and it is their honest and positive thoughts about the environment in which they work that has got us into the top 100.
“Along with our recent ‘outstanding’ status it reinforces that we have a dedicated, happy and efficient workforce, which is steering Muir Group Housing firmly in the right direction.”
