Charity helps kids get on their bikes
A HOUSING Association in Blackpool has helped youngsters get on their bikes.
Muir Group Housing’s registered charity Friends of Muir Group has donated £750 towards providing a new mountain bike trailer for a group of youngsters from the town who are taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
The trailer enabled the youngsters – aged between 14 and 24 – to undertake a 20-mile round trip from Glasson Dock to Morecambe as part of their training for the expeditions for the gold, silver and bronze awards.
Barbara Stephenson, community housing officer for Muir Group Housing – which has an office based at Chepstow Road - said: “The kids had a great time. It was a lovely day out for them.”
Barbara, who has been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme for two years, added: “The old trailer couldn’t fit many bikes or equipment on it, making it difficult for us to take the kids out on trips where they could train for their awards, so it’s great that we can now take them out without any logistics problems.”
The group is now planning for their next trip to the Yorkshire Dales on July 10.
Friends of Muir Group is a registered charity formed by Muir Group Housing Association to support projects or initiatives that benefit the communities where the association operates.
