Godmanchester residents are bloomin’ marvellous

Godmanchester residents are bloomin’ marvellous FLOWER power has swept through Godmanchester once again as the town celebrates its annual ‘in bloom’ garden competition.

And for the green-fingered gardeners of McCartney House – a sheltered scheme run by Muir Group Housing – the competition left them smelling of roses after they scooped first prize for ‘Best Retirement Homes Garden’.

Jackie Vickery, manager at McCartney House, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and huge reward for everyone at McCartney House who has worked so hard on the garden.”

The accolade comes after McCartney House was highly commended for its garden in 2009.

This year, judges were stunned by the level of hard work and care that had gone into the garden and praised residents for their huge efforts in planting new flowers and creating new beds.

Godmanchester residents are bloomin’ marvellous Chair of the Godmanchester in Bloom committee John Thackray said: “There was stiff competition across all categories this year and none more so than in the Retirement Homes section.

“Huge congratulations have to go to McCartney House who set such a high standard and left judges unanimous in their decision to award them the top prize along with Oak Tree Close.”

Started in 2007, Godmanchester in Bloom aims to improve the town for everyone and includes categories such as best public house garden, front garden, hanging baskets and window boxes.
