30 local school children from Melton Mowbray will learn about the hazards on building sites and how dangerous they can be, during a lesson with a difference on Wednesday 14 May 2008.
Muir Group, Melton Borough Council, Gould Construction and Masefields architects have teamed up to run a demonstration that highlights the dangers on building sites, to encourage children to stay away from them and also to teach them how to keep themselves safe in hazardous situations.
Before the lesson the children and their teachers will tour the building site on the Egerton estate where Melton’s new children’s and community centre is being built. The centre is due to open this June. Muir Group, a not-for-profit housing association, will manage the new centre along with 10 new affordable homes as part of a local regeneration scheme.
Muir Group’s Janet Kaneen, community engagement officer, said:
”This should be a really fun day, as well as very educational and practical. The new community centre has already kickstarted so much energy and enthusiasm for a range of activities for the local children.”
