Stationery amnesty encourages recycling
HOUSING association workers were encouraged to give up their unused staplers and notepads as part of a ‘stationery amnesty’.
Muir Group Housing Association held the amnesty on Monday, December 13, at its offices in Helsby and Chester in a bid to highlight the importance of recycling and use of office resources.
As well as the amnesty a paper recycling scheme already in place in the Chester office was launched at the Helsby office.
The idea for the stationery amnesty was thought up by Rebecca Graves, the association’s Environmental Officer, and Gemma Oram, Performance Manager.
Rebecca said: “It was a chance for people to hand back that extra pad of paper or stapler they grabbed from the cupboard because they thought they might need it but never have.
“The aim was to highlight the importance of recycling and to also raise awareness of the use of office resources.
“Staff responded really well with lots of unwanted stationery, including six staplers, being handed back in one office.”
As well as kick-starting the paper recycling scheme, a new process for streamlining stationery orders was also launched in order to cut costs and wastage within the company.
