Barbecue to bring community together
A NEW residents group is organising a free barbecue for their neighbours on Saturday, May 7.
The barbecue is being held by Godmanchester Residents’ Group which formed late last year.
The barbecue has been funded by Friends Of Muir Group, the charity arm of Muir Group Housing Association, and will be held between 2pm and 5pm at the junction of Tudor Road and Rushes Walk for people living in that area.
Home-owners and tenants are welcome, although children under 16 must be accompanied and there are no dogs, except guide dogs, allowed.
“It’s about promoting the new group and trying to get more people involved so we can resolve any issues that crop up in the area,” said group member Jim Worlding.
“We’re just praying that we have the same good weather we had over the Easter bank holidays.”
As well as food and drinks there will also be entertainment for children.
Jan Kaneen, Community Engagement Officer with Muir Group Housing Association, said: “The barbecue should be a great event that will bring the community together and hopefully make people aware of the work this new group is doing and give local residents a chance to put forward any ideas they may have for improving the area.
“The group only formed late last year after Muir Group held community meetings to deal with residents’ concerns but they have already had a big impact.
“Last year they joined forces with Godmanchester In Bloom to plant 2,000 daffodils in the Tudor Road area which have now flowered and given the area a colourful boost.”
