Choice Based Lettings (CBL) is the term used to describe a local authority managed system for applying for a general needs home. This may apply to you if you live in an area which operates a Choice Based Lettings Scheme.
WHAT IS CHOICE BASED LETTINGS?
A Choice Based Lettings (CBL) scheme allows you to search for, apply for and bid for social rented properties in your area. Housing Associations advertise their empty properties through the CBL scheme so you only have to apply once.
It’s really simple to apply:
- click on the area below to register with the CBL scheme -you can register by phone, on the website or in the area offices listed on the websites
- once your application has been approved, you’ll receive a bidding reference and a banding priority based on your housing need
- look at the properties available either online, in the CBL offices and local papers
- bid on the properties you’re interested in
- if you're successful, based on priority needs, you will be contacted with a property offer by the relevant housing association
CHOICE BASED LETTINGS BENEFITS
- The process is designed to be as fair as possible, giving all applicants an equal opportunity to bid
- Gives applicants the opportunity to bid on multiple properties they are interested in, therefore greater choice
- Allows applicants to track their progress, see how many other bids there are and what position they are on the shortlist –manages expectations
