Clear vision for Muir Group… Investing in People & Communities – Changing Lives

Muir Group has revealed its vision for the future with the launch of its new strategic plan.

The group, whose head office is based in Chester and owns and manages more than 5,000 homes across the country, has set out its goals for the next three years in a bid to ‘redefine excellence’ across all of its services.

The plan was put together following extensive consultation with the social landlord’s involved residents, its Board and staff. The final plan was launched at the Group’s 2014 Annual General Meeting held last Thursday, which took place at Chester Zoo.

The three-year plan puts a strong emphasis on resident engagement, to ensure that the association is delivering the services its customers want. Muir has already made good progress on this front getting more repairs right first time, introducing more ways for residents to get in touch and through regular engagement via its various resident forums and groups.

Muir has also outlined further plans to support those residents affected by the introduction of Universal Credit. During the last financial year, Muir helped 86 residents who had been struggling with their finances, restructuring over £400,000 worth of personal debt in the process.

“We are experiencing some of the biggest changes to social housing for many years with significant implications for many of our residents,” said Catherine Dixson, Chief Executive of Muir Group Housing Association.

“Whilst we are still committed to providing new homes, our priorities will change and this will result in a renewed focus on improving and modernising the way we deliver services. We will continue to strive to enhance our customers’ experiences and relationships, drive out inefficiencies, achieve excellence and offer value for money in everything that we do.

The three-year plan also reiterates Muir’s commitment to deliver good quality, affordable homes for local people. The last year saw Muir develop 129 new homes, and the association has also committed £24 million to develop at least 229 new properties over the next three years.

“Our new plan gives us a clear direction for the future – putting our customers at the heart of what we do,” added David Booth, chairman of Muir Group Housing association.

“It acknowledges that we are more than just a landlord. Although the provision of housing in itself changes the lives of many, we also want people to thrive and maximise their opportunities in life.”
