Muir Group sponsors Young Person of the Year at Winsford Oscars

A housing association from Chester helped recognise Winsford’s unsung heroes at a glittering ceremony on Friday 28th March.
Mike Kennedy, Mayor of Winsford, hosted the event at the town’s Lifestyle Centre, known as the Winsford Oscars, to recognise groups and individuals from the town who have made a difference to the community over the last 12-months. The evening opened and closed with a bang as the 250-attendees were treated to brilliant performances from local singers and film makers, while a spectacular firework display and confetti shower signalled the end of proceedings.
In between winners were crowned in a number of categories, including Young Person of the Year, which was sponsored by Muir Group, and won by 17-year old Alex Hannon for her voluntary work, and for helping to raise £3,000 for local good causes over the last year. There were also awards for entrepreneurial endeavours, environmental initiatives and sporting achievements.
Bev Price, Community Engagement Officer for Muir Group, said “All the nominees are very inspiring and deserve recognition; young people are our future and Muir Group is very proud to support Winsford Town in recognising young people who are dedicating their time to helping others.”
Muir Group was also represented by Assistant Regional Manager Emma Robinson, and Lyn Campbell and Natalie O’Meara, who are involved residents and part of the GGO Action programme for West Winsford where Muir Group has over 250 homes on the Glebe Green estate.
“It was a fabulous evening, with everyone from the compere, the performers, and, of course, all the Oscar nominees being from this great town of ours. Winsford and its people often don’t get the praise they deserve and the evening was a wonderful way of celebrating their achievements. I am extremely grateful to all our sponsors, without whose support the evening would not have been possible,” said Mike Kennedy.
£400 was raised on the night through a raffle with the proceeds going to Winsford Youth Forum and St Luke’s Hospice.
