Dementia Friendly
How Muir is working to support residents with Dementia
Dementia is associated with an ongoing decline of the brain and its abilities. Its associated symptoms include problems with memory loss, thinking speed, understanding and judgment. Those people who are affected by it can become apathetic or uninterested in their usual activities, or have trouble coping with certain social situations.
800,000
That is the estimated number of people across the UK who are affected by Dementia.
Some of you may know a friend or family member that has been affected by the condition.
Dementia Friends is an initiative led by the Alzheimer’s Society and UK Government, to raise awareness and understanding of Dementia, and the little things we can do to help make the lives of those living with the condition a little easier.
The government has set the initiative a target of getting one million people to become Dementia Friends by the end of 2015. We recently sat down with our Supported Housing Officer ,Emma Davies, to find out how Muir is training its staff to become Dementia Friends.
Don’t suffer in silence
If you or your loved ones have been affected by dementia, do not worry – support is available.
As we mentioned in the above article, Muir is working closely with out frontline staff to ensure that they have an understanding of the Dementia, and how they can help meet the needs of those people who are living with the condition.
