CARTOONIST DRAWS SMILES FROM SHOPPERS AS MUIR'S SUPPORTED LIVING HELPS TOWARDS DEGREE

A CARTOONIST is drawing more people to his work after seeing his sketches showcased at Chester’s Indoor Market.
Stuart Boyd, a Supported Living resident with Muir, recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design from Chester University.
Having spent much of his time in the indoor market creating his colourful coursework, he’s now become its ‘artist in residence’ and says the response from visitors has been “fantastic”.
“I enjoy feeling part of a community at Rowlands Lodge with Muir,” Stuart, who has autism said.
“That has helped me believe I could achieve my goal of getting my degree and I really stuck to it.
“I grew up watching a lot of cartoons and I really enjoy creating them.
“I’ve got a lot of passion and I do it for the love of art – It keeps me busy and I find it very therapeutic.
“My drawings have been on display in Chester Indoor Market where I did a lot of the work towards my course.
“They’ve told me I’m their artist in residence and it’s great to have their support.
“It’s good to have recognition for doing something I love, and I’ve had lots of interest from visitors and tourists in the market too.”
Stuart, 40, graduated after improving his drawing techniques at Chester’s Handbridge College and the City’s University where he received “lots of support”.
Having sold some of his artwork, he’s now focusing on becoming a freelance artist and creating his own comics as his following grows on Instagram at shadowarts.sb
“We’re so proud of Stuart’s achievements,” Georgina Millington, Muir’s Supported Living Project Manager said.
“He’s a real inspiration and really worked hard to get his degree.
“To be recognised by Chester Indoor Market is fantastic for him and we’re delighted Rowlands Lodge has helped give him a platform to succeed.”
