CELEBRATING MUIR'S LOCKDOWN HEROES - LEE MACKENZIE

AMID the many COVID-19 lockdowns, we asked Muir residents to vote for their Lockdown Heroes - both residents and non-residents who had helped and brought joy to the people living with Muir.

We're delighted to celebrate those you thought deserved Hero status!

Congratulations and thank you to Lee Mackenzie!

Muir resident MUIR resident, Lee Mackenzie, has been attracting global audiences during lockdown while also being heavily involved in setting up the Northwich Isolation Support group to help people cope with lockdowns.

Lee worked to establish a local community phone line and deliver things to people unable to get out, along with the help of a team of dedicated volunteers.

Delivering food parcels, prescriptions and other essential items, the group also worked with Cheshire West and Cheshire Council who referred people to the group for the help it was offering.

Lee also found time to serenade people from outside his own front door with regular online concerts watched by thousands of people around the world as he helped distract them from their lockdown lows too.

Muir resident “We set up Northwich Isolation Support to help people elderly and vulnerable people, and those who lost their jobs because of what was happening,” Lee said.

“The group has been delivering food parcels and prescriptions and the phone line has been available seven-days-a-week for people to call.

Singer, Lee, used his musical skills to good effect during lockdown, setting up his microphone on his own front lawn to entertain neighbours each Saturday evening before streaming concerts online to audiences of more than 10,000 viewers worldwide.

Heroes poster “It was amazing to know I was helping so many people escape isolation for an hour,” Lee said.

Upon hearing that he was to receive a Lockdown Hero award from Muir, Lee said: “I couldn’t believe it.

“It’s just something I’ve enjoyed doing but here’s been a lot of help from other volunteers too because it’s been a time of real need.”
