‘HAVING A LAUGH AND DOING WHATEVER I WANT’ - LIFE AT MUIR SHELTERED SCHEME HAS SYLVIA IN STITCHES

SYLVIA says she’s been ‘having a laugh’ ever since becoming a Muir resident almost 30 years ago.

One of Muir’s longest serving residents, Sylvia Peacock loves to laugh along to the stand-up comedians that sometimes perform at the Association’s sheltered scheme in which she lives.

The 87-year-old enjoys the sociable side of sheltered living, and the security of knowing help is at hand if ever she needs it.

She moved to McCartney House after being recommended to it by a fellow resident, and Mrs Peacock says she wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the lifestyle there to others considering such a move.

Sylvia Peacock “I enjoy it – I can do whatever I want,” Mrs Peacock said.

“It’s quite sociable. There is always something going on in the main room and if you want help with anything you only have to ask the scheme manager.

“I like watching the comedians when they come to visit us, and the concerts here as well.”

Although having only lived in McCartney House for eight years, Mrs Peacock has been a Muir resident for almost 30 – making the move to the scheme after her next-door neighbour told her how wonderful it was.

“She really liked it here and that’s what made me decide to come,” said Mrs Peacock.

“I loved my garden where I lived before, but I have a good view of the garden here too.”

The mother-of-three said: “My great-grandchildren visit me and my daughter visits me a lot as she is my carer also, which is lovely.

“I’d certainly recommend living at a sheltered scheme with Muir Group Housing Association to anyone else,” she added.
