Helping Great Muir Staff to Help our Great Muir Residents - Being Part of Muir's Caring Human Resources Team

HELPING Muir’s great staff to perform at their peak each day is a top priority for the Association’s Human Resources Team.

Supporting a healthy working environment for staff to enjoy goes a long way to enhancing delivery of the services Muir offers.

It means everyone can take pride in knowing they can fulfil their potential and add real value to the Association, and Muir’s residents.

HR “We aim to provide a professional HR service to everyone,” said HR Manager, Gill Young, who has worked at Muir for 16 years (pictured here [left] with colleagues Jonathan Haigh and Lucy Gibson).

“We pride ourselves on being friendly and approachable, supporting staff and managers and maintaining a healthy work/life balance.

“We provide guidance and support on areas such as recruitment and selection, and embed the associations values in everything we do.

“A big part of what we do is ensuring we have the right people in the right place at the right time.”

Gill, who is married with one son, and enjoys walking in the peace of the Lake District as well as the buzz of the occasional city break in New York, says the importance of fairness and empathy also play a big part in her HR role.

“No two days are ever the same and there is a lot of variety with different challenges,” she added.

HR Lucy Gibson, HR and Operational Development Assistant, says Muir’s passionate employees are also supported to undertake further training so they can develop their skills.

“We have thorough induction programmes for new staff,” said Lucy, who loves the cloud forests of Costa Rica just as much as walking in Snowdonia and along the Welsh Coast.

“This forms the foundation of our learning and development journey at the Association.

“The induction programme helps to ensure Muir staff are consistent across all areas allows us to embody the Association’s values.

“Health, safety and especially employee wellbeing are very important to us and that helps make Muir a desirable place to work.

HR The Association’s Interim HR Officer, Jonathan Haigh, has been instrumental in Muir’s recent Investors In People accreditation.

“It’s important to attract, develop and retain great staff,” said married snowboarder and Newcastle United supporter Jonathan.

“Attaining recognised Investors In People standards ensures we are doing the right things and looking after our staff in line with best practice.

“It helps provide a very positive working environment and it’s rewarding to be part of that process.”
