‘HOARDER WORKED HARD TO BE HAPPY AGAIN’ AFTER MUIR HELPED HIM FEEL AT HOME

A FORMER hoarder is happy in his home again after Muir worked with him and support partners to help restore his mental health .
Geoff Colley had filled his Muir home of 12 years with items including a church organ, and various broken white goods while also being piled high with DVDs, CDs, videos, books and magazine collections.
We worked with Geoff and the Richmond Fellowship Support Agency to help him remove items in his flat and create a home again, restoring his mental health and ensuring he has a property to be proud of.
“I’ve got a home again now, a really good home, and I’m happy – really proud,” Geoff said.
“I worked really hard with the Richmond support workers to clear everything, and Muir obtained funding towards shelving and other things to help me store things differently.
“Everything is in order and my mental health is so much better.
“I wasn’t really living at all before but now I feel at home and I’ve got everything I need.”
We obtained funding that enabled Geoff to get a new chair and mattress to make him more comfortable, as well as a new rug and vacuum cleaner.
The improved space within his home meant we could replace his broken boiler so he’ll be warm again this winter, and made fire exits accessible.
“We’ve worked hard in a multi-agency approach with Richmond Fellowship Support Agency and Geoff to ensure his home is a safe and comfortable place to live,” Jamie Hogarth, Muir Tenancy Services Officer (pictured with Geoff) said.
“I really enjoyed working with Geoff and the Richmond team to help restore happiness in his home and his mental health is much improved as a result.
“He’s made some great progress and we’re pleased to help support people in this way.”
