Hot and cold water systems can be a place where Legionella bacteria can grow.

You can’t get it from drinking water.

Shower You can reduce the risk by…

  • Running showers and taps for ten minutes if they’ve not been used for a while, such as when returning from holiday.
  • Keeping shower heads and taps clean and free from limescale, mould or algae.
  • Keeping the hot water temperature on your boiler system at 50 degrees or more.
  • Flushing through any outside taps, especially before connecting to hosepipes which create a spray of water that can be breathed in.
