LIAM SAYS THE SAME ‘HELPING HAND’ HE LOVES GIVING AT MUIR INSPIRES HIM TO VOLUNTEER TOO

BEING a volunteer at a Primary School Academy underlines Muir’s Head of Customer Experience’s commitment to helping others.

Liam Radford spends some of his free time volunteering as Chair of Governors at a Primary Academy in Wythenshawe, which he says is another way to give people ‘a helping hand in life’.

He also encourages anyone to volunteer their time having enjoyed every moment and learnt plenty of new things since throwing himself into the role three years ago.

“I work in housing because I honestly believe that some people just need a helping hand sometimes, and it’s the same with the Academy,” Liam said.

“I wanted to give something back to the community I’m from and I’m also learning new skills which support my own career development.

“It’s really satisfying to help make a difference to children of families who have experienced difficult times.

“We strive for them to have the same opportunities as others, regardless of background.

“I’m really proud of my role at the Academy and am committed to enhancing the outcomes of children who face lots of challenges.”

The Academy was recently measured by OFSTED as ‘outstanding’.

“Being part of an Academy helps you work in different ways to other schools to achieve things,” Liam said.

“But I’d encourage anyone to volunteer for something they truly want to do.

“Time is precious but if you find something that is rewarding for you, and that you can learn from while helping a good cause, it means your time is always well spent and your efforts are worthwhile.”
