National £1m campaign gets Muir support as COVID-19 threatens more people with poverty

MUIR is throwing its weight behind a national campaign to raise £1million for people affected by the financial impact of COVID-19.

‘More Than Homes’ has launched a bid to raise £1m for Foodbank founders, the Trussell Trust, a charity already supported by Muir via generous food donations from staff, and resident referrals made by frontline colleagues.

Now, Muir is donating £10,000 to More Than Homes as the campaign bids to raise money from across the housing sector, to reduce the poverty and hunger experienced by people living in the communities where we work.

Muir staff “Supporting people and families in a crisis such as this is critically important and is at the heart of Muir’s social purpose,” Sam Scott, Muir’s Executive Director of Operations (left) said.

“The importance of working together across the housing sector to help alleviate some of the significant impacts of the current crisis cannot be underestimated, particularly as the economic impact of COVID-19 on individuals and families becomes a reality.

“With this £10,000 donation, Muir wants to help make the difference that’s needed now.”

Homelessness Seventy-five per cent of donations raised from More Than Homes will be distributed directly to local food banks to get through the initial crisis and provide support with increased long-term demand.

The remaining 25% will support programmes such as securing food, recruiting, training and deploying 15,000+ new volunteers, creating and maintaining a new national helpline and establishing a new nationwide delivery infrastructure capable of distributing hundreds of thousands of emergency parcels.
