NEW FIRE SAFETY STRATEGY SET TO ENHANCE HEALTH AND SAFETY FOR MUIR RESIDENTS

A NEW Muir strategy for Fire Safety is set to keep residents even safer in their homes.

Changing legislation is providing new ways for landlords to enhance fire safety and Muir is making sure it acts in accordance with any new guidelines.

The Association is developing a new Fire Safety Strategy to ensure it continues to meet its Health and Safety responsibilities as part of its ongoing investment in homes programme.

Muir staff “Keeping Muir residents safe is a top priority for the Association,” Muir’s Senior Fire Officer, Sophie Holmes (right) said.

“Muir has an outstanding fire safety record and we complete thorough Fire Risk Assessments at our properties each year, acting upon any recommendations to ensure residents stay safe.

“Our proactive commitment to Fire Safety is unwavering and any new legislation will be acted upon accordingly.

“A new Fire Safety strategy will be implemented as part of Muir’s five-year investment programme for all properties which will get underway in April 2022, following completion of the Association’s Stock Condition Survey.

Muir staff Muir invested more than £528,000 in areas such as upgrading fire doors and fire detection systems in flats and communal areas, so residents benefit from developing technology.

More than 280 fire entrance doors to flats, and over 240 new fire detection systems were installed as part of that investment.

Muir staff Nik Evans, Muir’s Assistant Director of Property Services (left), says residents can be assured that Muir will continue to deliver on its Health and Safety responsibilities.

“Nothing is more important than the safety of Muir residents and the development of a new Fire Safety strategy continues to underline our commitment in that area.

“Being rolled out during the next five years, this strategy will ensure Muir continues to provide residents with safe places to live while being secure in the knowledge that their home complies with the very latest Fire Safety legislation.”
