PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPIL NAMES MUIR’S NEW ELLESMERE PORT ESTATE

A PRIMARY school pupil has drawn inspiration from her town’s car-building heritage after winning a competition to name a new street.

Isabel Davies, a Year Four pupil at Ellesmere Port’s Cambridge Road Primary School, made her own slice of history after local councillors selected her idea as the place name for 29 new homes being built in the town.

Thanks to Isabel, the 29 new affordable homes being provided by Muir Group Housing Association, will reside on ‘Astra Close’, after the youngster recognised the area’s car-constructing past when conjuring up a name for the ages in a competition arranged by developers, Lane End Group.

School pupil Isabel said she was “really happy and excited” to know her Astra Close entry was picked to stand the test of time from among those of her Year 4 and 5 classmates.

“Isabel’s entry was a wonderful way to capture past, present and future, by recognising the importance of the Vauxhall Astra car to Ellesmere Port,” Annette Westwater, Development Officer at Muir Group Housing Association said.

School pupils “We were delighted it captured the attention of councillors and we look forward to seeing Isabel’s Astra Close street sign welcoming families into new homes

“We are very pleased to be working with housing developers, Lane End Group, to bring these affordable homes to the area of land off Cromwell Road, and we were thrilled to work with pupils from Cambridge Road Primary School to give the new street its iconic Astra Close name.”

School pupil The development will see four three-bed houses, 15 two-bed properties and four one-bed flats all made available for affordable rent with Muir.

Six three-bed homes will be provided for shared ownership with Homes By Muir, with the development earmarked for completion in early 2024.
