Resident enjoying 'debt free life' after settling on Muir scheme

A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER has told how she is “enjoying life” again after staff working at a Muir provided scheme helped her overcome her debt worries.

Christine O’Rourke, 70, has been living on the Association’s Benham Court supported housing scheme in Northampton for more than six years.

The former occupational therapist has expressed her gratitude for the help she received and revealed she has been inspired to pick up her pen once more having previously written stories for her 17 grandchildren and great-grandchild.

“I am settled and enjoying life more now I am debt free,” Christine said.

“I have lived in Benham Court for six-and-a-half years but in the early days I got into debt with a loan company.

“Two years ago I started working with the Midland Heart staff who work here at Muir's Benham Court scheme to clear the debt.

“They made sure I made regular payments each week and took me to collect my benefits from the post office.

“I have been paying my service charges and the arrears I was in with my rent.

“Now I am completely up to date and in credit with my electricity as well.”

“It took me a while but it feels good.”

Christine spent 23 years as an occupational therapist and also used to volunteers for the Women’s Voluntary Service on the Oncology Ward at Northampton General Hospital.

Now she plans to pick up her pen again to write stories for her grandchildren to enjoy.

“Although I haven’t written any for a while, I do like to write children’s stories and poems,” said Christine.

“Hopefully I can do a few more again soon because I am generally happy here and I think Muir provide a good scheme,” she added.
