SOME MUIR QUICK TIPS FOR A FIRE SAFE CHRISTMAS

We want you to have a fire-free Christmas. Take a look at these tips provided by the Fire Service to help make sure they don’t need to pour cold water on your festive season.

Many of the things we enjoy over the festive period, such as fairy lights, candles, paper hats and decorations, can all be fire risks if proper care isn't taken. 

Follow these Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service festive fire safety tips to make sure you're safe this Christmas.

12 Christmas fire safety tips

1:  Check your Christmas tree lights conform to the British Standard.
2:  Never place candles near your Christmas tree or furnishings and don't leave them burning unattended.
3:  Make a fire escape plan – just in case you have an emergency during the festive period.
4:  Decorations can burn easily - Don't attach them to lights or heater.
5:  Always switch Christmas lights off and unplug them before you go to bed.
6:  Remember! After drinking alcohol, the risk of accidents in the kitchen is greater.
7:  Most fires start in the kitchen, so don’t leave cooking unattended.
8:  Drive safely this Christmas.
9:  If you smoke, make sure that your smoking material is extinguished before you go to bed.
10:  Use Christmas as a reminder to clean your smoke alarm to remove dust.
11: Don’t overload plug sockets.
12: Check on elderly relatives and neighbours - make sure they are fire safe.
