VOLUNTEERING AS A GUIDE AND BROWNIE LEADER GIVES OUR KAREN MUIR GREAT IDEAS

VOLUNTEERING to help Guides, Brownies and her local Rainbow group for 17 years gives our Customer Experience Manager some great ideas when it comes to managing her team at Muir.

Karen began volunteering with her local Guide and Brownie group when a shortage of volunteers threatened its closure.

And she loves being a part of seeing how girls develop their skills and confidence having also been a Brownie herself.

“I enjoy volunteering with them because it’s a safe space for girls to develop and grow as individuals,” Karen said.

“I get to see and help them on that journey.

“We have lots of fun and they learn some great life skills as we work towards badges, do activities and go camping as a pack.”

Karen volunteers one evening each week, as well as on weekends when her Guides and Brownies group enjoy camping in the great outdoors.

“It’s really fulfilling to enjoy different experiences with them and see them progress,” said Karen.

“It’s great to give something back to the community too.

“I get to meet other volunteers from different walks of life that I wouldn’t usually come into contact with.

“Volunteering as a group leader also helps me in my job when managing my team, and vise-versa – giving me some great ideas which help us perform.

“I’d encourage anyone to use some of their free time to volunteer.

“It’s a great way to enjoy something you’re passionate about and help others.”
