Watch as Les Shows you how Muir gets Empty Properties Ready for New Residents

MAKING sure empty properties are of a good standard for new Muir residents when they move in is a key priority for the Association.

Muir makes empty properties, also known as voids, available as soon as possible for new residents, ensuring they are free of health and safety issues, and that the facilities are in good working order.

Work can include replacing kitchens, bathrooms, wiring and plastering, and can take from as little as just one day, depending on the amount of work needing to be done.

Responsibility for that often falls to Muir Group Housing Association’s own in-house contractor, Muir Property Solutions (MPS).

Les Oakes video Les Oakes, Voids Supervisor at MPS, oversees the work that takes place at empty properties for Muir in the North and North West.

“Some properties just need a few basic repairs,” said Les (pictured).

“A lot of it can depend on how they have been treated by previous tenants, but the average turnaround is less than two weeks.

“If a new tenant needs to move in quickly, sometimes we can complete certain jobs around them, depending on their situation.

“Organisation and planning is key to providing properties quickly and efficiently, while also making sure they reach the proper standard, and that the correct certificates are in place.”
