Why Becky Loves Helping People Make Great Strides In Life While Living With Muir

TENANCY Services Officer, Rebecca Miller, enjoys going out and about to meet residents just as much as she loves exploring the great outdoors.

The 31-year-old who works on Muir’s North Housing Team, joined the Association in 2016 having previously worked as a Police Community Support Officer.

Now she helps new residents to find accommodation with Muir, settle into their homes, and provide support to them whenever they need it.

Rebecca Miler Becky took time out from her busy schedule to explain some of the things she does in her role, and the satisfaction she gets from helping to provide housing to people in the community.

“I really enjoy my job,” Becky said. “A big part of that is because it is so varied.

“I like helping to house people and seeing how they’ve been able to progress with the support we offer.

“Seeing someone go from being homeless to making real progress in their lives, and knowing that you have helped, gives you great job satisfaction.”

Becky is involved with everything from doing pre-tenancy checks, financial assessments and obtaining references for new residents, to doing viewings at properties, helping them receive valuable money advice, and doing scheme inspections to check on grounds and property maintenance issues that may arise.

Rebecca Miller“I enjoy helping people to feel comfortable in their homes,” said Becky, a keen hockey player who also supports Blackburn Rovers FC.

“Things like helping to resolve anti-social behaviour concerns, and provide aids and adaptations to someone’s home, even something small such as handrails to help with mobility, can make a big difference to the quality of someone’s life.

“I like getting out and about and meeting Muir residents and achieving positive results for them.

“I work in a good team in Muir’s North region who are very much geared towards helping the communities they represent.”

Rebecca Miller Away from work, Becky is often out on the hockey pitch representing her local team and also tackled her first half-marathon last year.

But she loves nothing more than going on camping trips in North Wales and the Yorkshire Dales, taking her dog ‘Teddy’ on long walks and generally enjoying the countryside.

“It’s great to be outdoors, which is probably also why I enjoy being out on our schemes and meeting with residents so much,” she added.
