Alison has close shave for charity

A scheme manager for Victoria House supported housing scheme in Northwich has proved she is a cut above the rest by having her head shaved for charity.

Alison Johnson, who works for Muir Group Housing Association in Chester, said goodbye to her locks on Friday the 21st March to raise funds for St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford. Muir Group’s Director of Housing Services Sam Scott was on hand with the clippers to carry out the hair cut.

The hospice needs £7,500 every day to operate, and cares for people in South and Mid-Cheshire with life limiting illness and 80% of its funding is through contributions and donations. Muir Group donated £300 to the hospice, with a further £20 given to Sport Relief from collections on the day.

“St Luke’s does vital work in the community and I wanted to be able to contribute towards that work, and at the same time support one of my work colleagues who is currently having treatment there. Having my hair shaved is nothing compared to people with life limiting diseases have to go through every day. I was really pleased I was able to help them,” said Alison.

“Muir Group has always been committed to helping out charity and the local community. Giving something back has always been our philosophy and this is just one example of how we go about doing that,” said Sam Scott.

Muir Group also raised £400 for Sport Relief by holding a dress down day and cycling the equivalent of Chester to Burnley and back on a fixed bike at its Chester-based headquarters. Members of staff, including CEO Catherine Dixson, took it in turns to ride the bike – loaned by Cheshire West and Chester’s healthier lifestyle and sustainable travel initiative iTravel – and donations were taken as the staff were pushing the pedals.

Victoria House is a supported housing scheme for residents with multiple support needs. It has 24-hour support staff and can accommodate up to 30 residents, the aim is to help residents achieve independent living. It is one of Muir Group’s many social housing schemes located throughout the UK.
