BILL HITS THE STREETS ON ICONIC SCOOTER AS MUIR RESIDENT CELEBRATES THE END OF SHIELDING

A MOTOR-MINDED Muir resident is once again turning heads in his town after months of COVID-19 shielding came to an end.

Former Royal Engineer, Colin ‘Bill’ Redford, enjoyed countless two-wheeled tours of Europe astride his motorcycle during 75 years of ‘fantastic adventures’ across the continent.

After moving into Muir’s McCartney House Independent Living scheme in Godmanchester a couple of years ago, Bill, now in his nineties, swapped two wheels for an iconic three-wheeled mobility scooter to help him get around.

“I feel like I’m living again,” Bill said after getting back out on his scooter for the first time since March.

He surrounds himself with memories of his motorcycling days in his comfortable McCartney House home, but rekindled a passion for DIY by upcycling lots of new items with which to display his treasures and memories during his shielding period.

Muir resident “Bill kept himself very busy during his period of shielding,” Dawn Hutchinson, Muir’s McCartney House scheme manager said.

“Although he missed being out and about on his scooter very much, he enjoyed making some handy household items.

“He turned his bedroom into a small workshop for a while, but it was great to see him keeping busy during his shielding and we’re delighted to see him back out on his scooter again now that he can get back out and about.”
