CARING COMMUNITY COUPLE LOVE NEW MUIR LIFESTYLE AS THEY HELP OTHERS THROUGH LOCKDOWN

A CARING couple say they love being part of a new Muir community as they volunteer to help neighbours living through lockdown.

Anthony and Morag Downie were among the first residents to move into Muir’s 44-home Watson Road development in Blackpool.

And they say being active in the community is helping them to help others while making new friends and enjoying life with the Association.

“We love it here,” Anthony said. “We’re really enjoying being part of this new community.

“All the neighbours are lovely and being here has made a massive difference to our lives.

Muir resident “We enjoy helping others and I’ve been able to help cut other people’s grass so they can enjoy their outdoor space during lockdown, and we’ve also been delivering food for people who’ve been unable to get out and about as much.”

The couple, originally from Paisley in Scotland, say they moved to Watson Road from a deprived area of Blackpool – with the change of scene having a positive impact, particularly for Anthony who had suffered from some health issues.

Muir resident“As soon as I moved here I felt a big difference,” he said. “It’s very peaceful and I’m enjoying having a garden with a vegetable patch too.”

When he’s not tending to his greens, or watering his orange and lemon trees, Anthony volunteers for the local Foodbank and helps Morag to deliver cakes to people in the community too.

Watson Road, Blackpool “Morag is a carer but when she’s not working she enjoys making craft items for people and making cakes,” said Anthony.

“We deliver to them to people and take tea with biscuits and shortbread too.

“We’re really keen to embrace the Watson Rd community, but of course we are pleased to be helping people in other communities in Blackpool too.”
