CELEBRATING MUIR'S LOCKDOWN HEROES - PINNY SINGH

AMID the many COVID-19 lockdowns, we asked Muir residents to vote for their Lockdown Heroes - both residents and non-residents who had helped and brought joy to the people living with Muir.

We're delighted to celebrate those you thought deserved Hero status!

Congratulations and thank you to Pinny Singh!

Muir resident SHOPKEEPER, Pinny Singh, proved a lifeline for many Muir residents on the Association’s Glebe Green estate in Winsford.

He was nominated as a Lockdown Hero for his efforts to ensure residents continued to receive supplies even when they couldn’t leave their homes.

With elderly and vulnerable residents shielding, Pinny and his family made sure the things they needed were delivered to the community while continuing to protect his staff inside the store.

He even placed a shopping basket of food outside his shop for anyone struggling to feed their families – and arranged special deliveries of anything he didn’t stock, as well as extra deliveries of items to meet increasing demand.

Muir resident“I’m really overwhelmed to get this award,” Pinny said.

“I feel like the shop is a big part of the community – we've been here for 20 years.

“For Muir residents to put me down for this is brilliant.

“I just see it as doing my job but looking back it has been a very busy time and a lot of hard work, especially with our kids needing to be home-schooled too.

Heroes poster “We tried to make sure the shop was a safe place by limiting the number of customers inside and having a one-way system and providing masks for people.

“We also joined up with a local ‘Goodwill scheme’ which meant volunteers could collect things for the wider community if they couldn’t get to their normal supermarket.

“I know a lot of people appreciated what we did at such a difficult time and now we are hoping for a bright future.”
