Changing times but immovable memories for Muir resident - Edith

EDITH Kelly has seen lots of changes during her time at Chislehurst Close in Bury.

She moved there after meeting her husband Frank, who had been living at the then newly-built property in 1977.

After getting married in 1982, they decided to stay at the address for a little while longer.

Edith KellyBut having found happiness there, Muir Group Housing Association is delighted that Edith is still a resident 40 years after Frank first unlocked the front door.

“We got married in July 1982, with all intentions of staying at the flat ‘just for a bit’,” Edith said.

“The gardens were all different then, there was only lawns, nothing like as nice as they are now.

“I’ve seen six wardens and scheme managers here over the years.

“When I first came we had a warden and a deputy, who both lived in at the scheme.

“The warden call was a loud bell that went off outside their flats - we could hear it all over.

“They had to run from wherever they were, to find out what the emergency was.

“We used to tease the deputy because something always happened when it was her two working days.

“I like living here, things have altered over the years; but I think I’ll stay,” Edith joked.
