Communities tuck into their 'Big Lunch' for Queen's birthday

COMMUNITIES across the country have been toasting the Queen’s 90th birthday by sitting down together for lunch.

And the Muir community was no different as tenants got into the birthday spirit by hosting events of their own as part of ‘The Big Lunch’ get together.

Residents have been busy preparing to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s big day for months by planning a host of activities to keep everyone entertained as part of the birthday celebrations.

They hosted a treasure hunt for friends, families and neighbours with plenty of food for those working up an appetite.

Donna Hufton, Sheltered Housing Scheme Officer at Tweedsmuir said: “We had a fantastic response and it was lovely to see so many people coming along to join in, and enjoying the burgers and hot-dogs.

“A big thank you to residents Jamie and Tom who took on the role of chefs for the day.”

Visitors aged from as young as four-years-old up to 96 enjoyed the event.

One neighbour, Betty said: “The treasure hunt was something different - great fun and the food was lovely.”
