‘EXSTRAWDINARY’ RESIDENT SCARECROWS BRING MUIR SMILES TO FESTIVAL

‘EXSTRAWDINARY’ scarecrows turned heads when Muir residents situated several at one of their Independent Living schemes, as part of a Little Sutton festival.

Residents at Smithy Court were joined by their eye-catching creations as they stuffed straw into old suits to ensure they looked the part for the village’s second annual event.

Scarecrow They had some famous faces on show as lookalikes of famed county singer Dolly Parton, and environmental activist Greta Thunberg, helped light up the Smithy Court gardens and the faces of residents while they got to know their new ‘hay-brained’ friends.

“Residents had a lot of fun and loved getting involved in making lots of weird and wonderful scarecrows for the festival, said Lorna Clare, the scheme’s manager.

“The scarecrows really brightened up the place and made everyone laugh.

“It was a great way to lift people’s spirits and for everyone to share some really funny ideas.”

Festival organisers, Positive Action for Little Sutton, had feared this year’s event may fall victim to the COVID-19 lockdown.

But Muir residents weren’t scared off by their decision to go ahead, meaning their scarecrows raised more smiles than shudders by making sure they were all of a friendly disposition.

They formed some of those that stood, or sat peacefully in the village near Ellesmere Port while locals followed the special socially-distanced scarecrow trail.

Fans of the BBC comedy docu-drama ‘This Country’ may have seen similar antics in action on TV, although Muir can confirm there were no fire extinguishers required to douse any heated competition between residents on the day!
