‘FANTASTIC’ FIRE SAFETY AND COMMUNAL FACELIFT FOR MUIR LIVING LOCATION

A 'FANTASTIC’ £280,000 fire safety and communal refurbishment has Muir Living residents feeling even happier in their homes.
Our Smithy Court independent living location in Great Sutton is enjoying even more ‘feel good’ and ‘feel safe’ factors thanks to the facelift it’s received.
Over 60s Muir Living residents are enjoying the new scheme’s colourful new look while also benefiting from a huge fire safety investment – which also benefit from new vibrating pillow fire alarms.
“The Muir Living location at Smithy Court has had a fantastic facelift,” Andrew Gerrard, Muir’s Senior Fire Officer said.
“The communal lounge looks fabulous with new chairs, tables, curtains, lamps, wooden flooring and carpeting – a whole new look and feel that helps meet resident needs.
“We’ve also made considerable investment in a new fire alarm system with a new alarm panel, and smoke and heat detectors in communal areas and apartments, and ‘hush’ buttons in case of false alarms
“We recently upgraded fire doors in both communal areas and entrances to residents’ private apartments, which now have vibrating pillow fire alarms to alert them while they sleep too.
"These fire safety investments have also enabled us to establish a new dual evacuation strategy – with a stay safe policy in apartments and a full evacuation policy in communal areas.
“All the changes mean residents can feel good and feel safe at Smithy Court.”
An interior designer worked with residents to develop the new look in the communal lounge, and residents are loving the refreshed feel.
Here’s what Smithy Court residents said:
Margaret May: “We think the lounge is a lovely place to relax.
“It’s a great improvement, and a lot of thought has been put in.
“The painting and decoration have made such a difference, light, airy a lovely atmosphere.”
Alan Ramsden said: “Since the new smoke detectors and heat detectors have been fitted in our flats, I feel a lot safer in my flat.
“The new hush button helps to silence the alarm if it’s set off by accident, making everything easy.
“Also, the new fire front door on my flat is great, safe, and secure. "
Ann Custao: “It looks really nice in the lounge and makes me feel as if it’s nice to sit and watch tv.
“Fire security has been well thought out. I do feel safer and I like that I can turn the noise down with the hush button on the fire alarm.”
