FIRST EVER RESIDENT SHARES MEMORIES AS MUIR CELEBRATES SUPPORTED SCHEME’S 30th YEAR

THE first ever resident of one of Muir’s supported housing schemes says she’s still enjoying lots of laughter as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Christine Williams, 59, has been at Rowlands Lodge in Chester since Day One, and enjoyed raising a glass to thirty years for both her and supported living there.

Supporting residents with learning and physical disabilities, Rowlands Lodge has been enabling people to live independent lives since 1994, providing them with the comfort of their own home and personalised support plans.

Muir resident“I believe in sharing and if you take your time, you’ll get there in the end,” Christine said.

“I enjoy being among friends at Rowlands Lodge and being part of a community.

“We have a right laugh, and I enjoy hearing residents and staff laughing and singing.

“I was the first resident here and it’s very nice to be part of the 30th anniversary.

Muir resident“Christine recalls many changes at Rowlands lodge, particularly everything being coloured cream when she first arrived after hr previous accommodation closed its doors.

“It’s a beautiful building and more colourful now,” Christine, who has Cerebral Palsy said.

“It was a sit spooky when I first arrived as I was the only one here but I soon settled in and began enjoying life.

“I had a bit more freedom. I had the opportunity to learn kitchen skills which I’d never done before, and carers helped me to go and shop.

Rowlands Lodge“I also get to go to a Day Centre regularly and I enjoy knitting for other residents while I’m there.

“We do lots of activities here too, gardening, archery, barbecues, cake and games days and I enjoy listening to the birds outside.

“I also enjoy watching the Formula One motor racing and doing puzzles to keep me entertained – they keep my mind active as well.

“Mainly, I love laughing with the other residents and the staff.”

Staff at Rowlands Lodge help residents fulfil their potential by accessing community services and enhancing life skills.

Muir staffGeorgina Millington, Muir’s Project Manager at Rowlands Lodge said: “We’re very proud to celebrate 30 years of Rowlands Lodge and the way we’ve been able to provide support for so many people here.

“It’s generated a good community spirit among residents and given them firm foundations for their lives.

“It’s wonderful to see residents develop and enjoy being part of Rowlands Lodge.”
